It was in the year 2007 when Ira Stehmann read the famous diaries of Andy Warhol. It said that Ron Galella was the best. That made her curious, and as luck would have it, the next evening at the opening of the Frank Stella exhibition at the Haus der Kunst in Munich, she was sitting next to the New York gallery owner Paul Kasmin, whom she asked if he knew Ron Galella. Paul couldn't believe Ira was asking him about Ron, because his next gallery show was one with works by Ron. So Ira traveled to New York with Nicola Erni, a collector from Switzerland, and they met Ron at Kasmin's gallery. An intense exploration of the work of this legendary paparazzi photographer began and Ira was able to visit him at his home in New Jersey in 2015. There they worked together for almost a week in his archive getting to know eachother well and establishing a deep trust. Ron was a wonderful warm person who loved to share his stories and adventures. They were in close communication for many years and she was able to place many of his works in first class collections-both museum and private.
