Echo of Silence: Photographic Meditations: An exhibition of artistic photography by Albarrán Cabrera, Steffen Diemer, Miho Kajioka, and Christopher Thomas

18 November 2024 - 1 March 2025

The exhibition Echo of Silence brings together the works of Albarrán Cabrera, Steffen Diemer, Miho Kajioka, and Christopher Thomas in an evocative exploration of silence, time, and contemplation. Their works not only reflect the visible world but reach for the invisible-the spaces between reality and sensation.

Albarrán Cabrera is a Spanish artist duo combining technical mastery with philosophical inquiry. Their works explore themes such as memory, time, and perception. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics and traditional photographic techniques, they employ alternative methods like platinum and palladium printing or cyanotypes on gold leaf. Their images transcend mere documentation, inviting viewers into a poetic, contemplative world where reality and imagination merge.
Albarrán Cabrera's art is deeply influenced by their interest in neuroscience, physics, and Eastern philosophy. They examine how human consciousness shapes and interprets the perception of reality.

Steffen Diemer, a master of wet plate photography, evokes an almost spiritual silence in his works. His carefully composed subjects-often flowers or everyday objects-appear timeless through the collodion wet plate process. His work recalls the aesthetic simplicity and reduction of Japanese art, which has greatly influenced him.

Miho Kajioka, also inspired by Japanese traditions, creates minimalist photographs reminiscent of visual haikus. Her works intertwine personal narratives with universal themes such as transience and the beauty of the moment.

Christopher Thomas, on the other hand, focuses on deserted urban landscapes, captured with a large-format camera and Polaroid technique. His black-and-white photographs, characterized by an almost painterly quality, reveal the quiet pulse of urban spaces.

The exhibition invites visitors to discover commonalities within differences-a meditative journey into the stillness of images that leave behind the noise of the world.
