Steven Meisel American, 1954

Steven Meisel was born in New York City in 1954 where he still lives. He is one of the most successful and respected fashion and portrait photographers of his generation.

With strong artistic ideas and unusual images for magazine covers and fashion photos, Meisel has dominated the pages of Vogue Italia and Vogue USA since the late 1980s.
The list of advertising clients reads like a "Who's Who" of luxury goods manufacturers. He is one of the few fashion photographers who loves fashion and mostly designs the layouts for his shoots himself. He himself chooses the models, he styles and directs them, and he thinks up the stories he wants to tell. Meisel was one of the discoverers of today's so-called supermodels from Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell to Stella Tennant. They all confided in him.

For Vogue Italia, he photographed nearly 400 cover motifs under editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani from 1988 to 2018.
